On her way to obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, option in Fitness, Ayaka Miyamoto had a dramatic change in perspective about the role fitness plays in everyone鈥檚 lives. Originally from Japan, Ayaka struggled with the construct that fitness was about appearance. She says taking the KIN 263 class 鈥 鈥淭echniques of Physical Fitness鈥 鈥 completely changed her perspective.

鈥淚 realized that fitness is not just for people who are already fit, but something that can be accessible to anyone, with the right guidance and support,鈥 Ayaka said.

While a student at 91制片厂, Ayaka worked as a teacher鈥檚 assistant, and worked at the 91制片厂 LifeFit Center. She relays the experience working with older adults on their fitness as a personal inspiration.

鈥淚 was inspired by their energy, and also saw how fitness connects people of all ages and backgrounds.鈥

In addition to obtaining her degree, Ayaka is graduating with department honors, having received the Fitness Option Award at the Department of Kinesiology鈥檚 end of year celebration.

鈥淢y goal is to help more people understand that fitness is not just about appearance, but about living a healthier and more confident life. I want to start in my home country [of Japan] and eventually expand my impact globally.鈥

Congratulations, Ayaka!
