Class of 2026 Student Spotlights: Boo Young Jun Bardales
Pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care came with a unique set of circumstances for Boo Young Jun Bardales. Originally from South Korea, Boo remembers the challenges in overcoming language barriers and adapting to a new culture in the United States. She persevered, and ultimately became a registered nurse, working a fast-paced hospital environment.
鈥淲hen I began my DNP program, my husband underwent critical surgery, my eldest child was diagnosed with a complex immunologic condition requiring frequent medical appointments, and my youngest was just six years old.鈥
Despite all this, Boo remained deeply committed to her dream of advancing her education.
鈥淚 navigated this season of life by intentionally prioritizing my time 鈥 daily, monthly, and long-term, using structured planning, and keeping my graduation goal firmly in sight.鈥
That determined attitude is no doubt why Boo is standing on the precipice of receiving her terminal degree.
鈥淓ducation has always represented growth and opportunity for me,鈥 she says.
Growing up in a rural part of South Korea as one of five children with limited resources, Boo was always inspired to help those less fortunate, citing her deep Catholic convictions and family, as sources of inspiration to where she stands today.
鈥淢y father, who passed away not long ago, often reminded me that while material things can be taken away, knowledge is something no one can ever take from you. That belief continues to guide and strengthen me.鈥
Now, with over 20 years of experience in critical care, and a doctorate degree in hand, Boo is taking the next step to serve her community with advanced knowledge and leadership.
鈥淚 chose primary care because prevention is essential to improving health outcomes, and I hope to make a meaningful impact by providing compassionate, informed, and patient-centered care to help others live healthier lives.鈥
Congratulations, Boo!
