Class of 2026 Student Spotlights: Laney Prichard
Laney Prichard is graduating with her Master of Science degree in Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology. Laney says that her time at 91制片厂 has been incredibly impactful in shaping both her personal and professional growth. Laney also won the Outstanding College Thesis award from the College of Health and Human Services, voted on collectively by the college Graduate Committee.
鈥淭hrough the mentorship of my advisors and professors, especially Dr. Jana Fogaca and Dr. Danielle Wong, I鈥檝e developed not only as a student, but also as a more well-rounded individual,鈥 Laney said. 鈥淚鈥檝e gained strong skills in academic research and thesis work, while applying that knowledge through hands-on experience in mental skills, consulting with Division I athletes.鈥
During her time at 91制片厂, Laney served as a Student-Athlete Peer Mentor at the Bickerstaff Athletic Center. While there, she said that she learned the importance of building trust, communicating effectively, and supporting student-athletes in a way that meets them where they are.
鈥淭his experience has prepared me to think critically, communicate effectively, and contribute meaningfully in high-performance environments.鈥
While also at 91制片厂, Laney completed and published thesis research on parental influence, autonomy and life satisfaction in collegiate sport transitions. She applied her work and skills consulting with LBSU athletics teams, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She also was a member of the Long Beach State Sport and Exercise Psychology (SEP) and performed additional research investigating social media influence on young female athletes鈥 body image. Laney also attended and presented research at Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Conferences.
鈥淟ooking ahead, I hope to build a career in athlete development at the professional level, with a focus on supporting athletes as individuals beyond their sport, ideally within the NBA or NFL. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this program, and it has solidified my passion for working with athletes, and helping people grow into the best versions of themselves as I move forward in my career.鈥
