Lupita Nieto really took full advantage of her college experience while at 91��Ƭ��. She graduates in May with her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. As a student, she was involved in both the 91��Ƭ�� Women’s Rowing and Women’s Flag Football clubs. She also served as an intern for the Leisure World Respite Program, and also as an intern she put on workshops for Student Health Services.

Within all of her activities, Lupita says the most important lesion she learned was the value of resilience grounded in compassion and responsibility. 

“I chose to pursue Public Health after losing a family member to cancer, an experience that had a profound impact on my life. This loss motivated me to pursue a role focused on prevention and early intervention.” 

Balancing academic responsibilities, work, and extracurricular activities, all while helping care for and support her siblings, Lupita says, strengthened her own resilience and deepened her empathy – traits that are crucial to have as a public health professional. 

“My experiences here at 91��Ƭ�� have shaped my life by strengthening my commitment to serving my community with compassion, remaining steadfast through adversity, and approaching both personal and professional responsibilities with integrity and purpose.”    

Lupita cites her father and her family, including her five older siblings, as being a major source of inspiration. 

“Their dedication, perseverance, and strong work ethic, have always served as powerful examples of what can be achieved through determination and sacrifice. Watching them work tirelessly to build their lives and pursue their goals motivated me to remain focused on my education, even during challenging times. They instilled in me the importance of discipline, resilience and purpose. I hope to serve my community by promoting health education, and support initiatives that empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health.”
