Class of 2026 Student Spotlights: Priya Tripathi
In earning her way towards her Master in Public Administration (MPA) degree, Priya Tripathi was an active member of the MPA student organization on campus, where she participated in student-led meet-ups and networking events that foster peer engagement and professional connection within the public service community. She also volunteered with the City of Lakewood, where she contributed her time to supporting local government initiatives.
鈥淭his experience has allowed me to observe municipal operations firsthand, and engage with community-focused public service at the local level,鈥 Priya said.
As an international student, Priya said moving to the United States to pursue her MPA was both exciting and overwhelming.
鈥淚 was adjusting to a new academic system, a new culture, and a new environment 鈥 all while working on campus and managing a full graduate course load. There were moments of exhaustion and self-doubt, especially when deadlines, work responsibilities, and personal expectations all converged at once. What helped me push through was building discipline, and reminding myself why I started. I created structure in my days, leaned into supportive friendships, and learned to ask for guidance when I needed it. Looking back, that challenge shaped me in ways I did not anticipate. It strengthened my resilience, sharpened my time management, and gave me confidence that I can adapt and thrive in unfamiliar spaces.鈥
Priya says she chose public administration because she has always been curious about how government and city systems work 鈥 and why sometimes they don鈥檛.
鈥淚 believe strong institutions have the power to change lives, but only when they are accountable, transparent, and designed with people in mind. During my time at 91制片厂, I became more committed to evidence-based policymaking and thoughtful governance. I am motivated by the idea that behind every policy decision are real communities and real consequences. I hope to serve my community by helping design and strengthen public systems that are efficient, equitable, and responsive. My goal is not just to work in government, but to contribute to institutions that genuinely improve people鈥檚 everyday lives.鈥
Congratulations, Priya!
