Frequently Asked Event Questions
When are events available?
Availability varies by event type and Garden schedule.
Weddings are available Friday through Sunday. General and private events are available Wednesday through Sunday. Photography, filming, and 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ department events are subject to the availability listed on their respective pages.
Contact the Garden before making other arrangements to confirm availability.
How far in advance should I book?
Weddings, general and private events, 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ department events, and filming require a minimum of 60 days' notice.
Photography and proposal sessions require a minimum of 30 days' notice.
We recommend contacting the Garden as early as possible to secure your preferred date.
How do I reserve my date?
Start by submitting an event inquiry with your preferred date, event type, estimated guest count, preferred event time, and basic event details to zengardenevents@csulb.edu.
For external events, once your event is approved, you will receive an agreement. A 50% deposit is required at the time of contract to reserve your date.
91ÖÆÆ¬³§ departments use the required Chartfield Form to confirm their reservation.
What is the maximum number of guests?
External events are limited to a maximum of 100 guests, including weddings and general or private events.
Capacity may vary depending on the event format and approved layout.
91ÖÆÆ¬³§ internal events may accommodate up to 200 guests and have separate facility requirements.
Can I tour the Garden before booking?
Yes. Site visits are recommended for weddings and larger events and must be scheduled in advance.
Do I need an event or wedding planner?
Wedding planners are recommended for all weddings and required for weddings with more than 50 guests.
Other events may require additional coordination depending on their size and complexity.
Can I bring my own vendors?
Vendor requirements vary by event. Please discuss rentals, entertainment, photography, and other vendors with your Garden representative before making final arrangements.
Food and beverage service must be provided by an approved 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ Captured Catering vendor.
All vendors must follow Garden and university policies.
Can we serve food and alcohol?
Food and beverage service must be provided by an approved 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ Captured Catering vendor.
Hard alcohol is not permitted. Beer, wine, sake, and champagne may be permitted with university approval and may be served for a maximum of four hours.
Is parking available?
Yes. Parking is available on the 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ campus. Parking fees and requirements vary depending on the event.
Your Garden representative can provide current parking information during the planning process.
What happens if it rains?
The Garden is primarily an outdoor venue, and clients should plan for changing weather conditions.
Severe weather may require changes to an event layout, schedule, or available Garden areas. Garden staff will determine whether conditions require modifications for guest safety or protection of the Garden.
Can I take professional photos in the Garden?
Yes, with advance approval and a photography permit.
Professional, portrait, graduation, engagement, wedding, proposal, and commercial photography require a permit and a minimum of 30 days' notice.

Can I film at the Garden?
Yes, with advance approval.
Commercial filming requires a film permit and a minimum of 60 days' notice. Additional university requirements and fees may apply.
Student filming rates differ from commercial filming rates.
Are decorations allowed?
Some decorations may be permitted with advance approval. Decorations must not damage plants, trees, structures, pathways, or other Garden features.
