Ready to host an event at the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden? Follow these simple steps to get started.

Step 1: Choose Your Event Type

Review the information for your event:

  • Weddings
  • Photography & Proposals
  • Filming
  • General & Private Events
  • 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ Department Events

Each event type has different availability, pricing, and requirements.

Step 2: Submit an Inquiry

Contact zengardenevents@csulb.edu with:

  • Preferred date
  • Event type
  • Estimated guest count
  • Preferred event time
  • Basic event details

We will review your request and confirm availability.

Step 3: Visit the Garden

For weddings and larger events, schedule a site visit to explore the Garden and discuss your plans with our team.

We can help you review event locations, layouts, guest flow, accessibility, and other logistical needs.

Step 4: Reserve Your Date

Once your event details are approved, you will receive an agreement outlining your rental, fees, and event requirements.

For external events, a 50% deposit is required at the time of contract to reserve your date.

91ÖÆÆ¬³§ departments will complete the required Chartfield Form to confirm their reservation.

Step 5: Plan the Details

Once your event is booked, begin finalizing:

  • Event layout
  • Catering and beverages
  • Vendors
  • Furniture and equipment
  • Music and audiovisual needs
  • Photography
  • Parking and guest arrival
  • Accessibility needs
  • Weather contingency plans

Garden staff will help you understand which requirements apply to your event.

Step 6: Confirm Your Final Plans

Before your event, submit your final guest count, layout, timeline, vendor information, and other required details.

Make sure your vendors are familiar with Garden and university policies before event day.

Step 7: Enjoy the Garden

Your planning is complete. Arrive during your scheduled rental time and enjoy your event in the beautiful surroundings of the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden.
