Ted Stankowich, director of the Mammal Lab at Cal State Long Beach, told that mammals generally lack nature’s brightest colors because most of them are color-blind. Instead of relying on vivid hues, many mammals use high-contrast patterns like black and white or brown and yellow to communicate with one another.
