Language Becomes Place: A Reading and Conversation with Yuri Herrera

Join us for a conversation about literature, borders, and language with one of Latin America's most renowned contemporary writers, Yuri Herrera. Hailed by The Guardian as “a star of global fiction,” Herrera’s literary prowess transcends the Spanish-speaking world making him one of the foremost ambassadors of Mexican literature of the 21st century in the international stage. He’s the author of several books, including Sings Preceding the End of the World, a lyrical tale about migration translated by Lisa Dillman, that won the prestigious 2016 , was a finalist for the Premio Internacional de Novela Rómulo Gallegos, and is featured on The Guardian’s list of the . Translated to several languages, Herrera’s oeuvre explores the ways in which literature responds, represents, and reimagines migration, exile, transnational identities, linguistic hybridity, and human’s relationship to technology.
